Meet our Directors and Board
Our Story
Boone County Special Services opened in September of 1972. There were 5 clients and 2 staff members. The first location was on South Pine in Harrison which was an office space for the bus garage. The town of Harrison gave the support and encouragement and by November 1974 there were 20 clients and 6 staff in the new location. Fama Watts who founded Boone County Special Services wanted somewhere that could meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. As of today Heart of the Ozarks Child Development Center a division of BCSS is still at 707 E. Rush, and The Adult Work Center is located at 309 Industrial Park Road.
Boone County Special Services is made up of 14 board member's, Executive Directory, Tommy Stokes, and Assistant Directory, Missy McBee. They want to assure that children with disabilities are successful in the public schools and that adults with disabilities lead normal lives and contribute to their community. They also want to continue to search for and initiate solutions to make lives of individuals with disabilities better. All of our staff members are well trained and highly skilled in what they do. All of them have a love for what they do which sets them a part from others. We want to enrich the lives of the people we serve. Our clients continue to thank us for the opportunities we have provided for them.
